Burger Alternative: So Rock Star minus the drugs and groupies

Burgers are amazing, especially the ones with that thick juicy patty stacked so high you barely bite into it. The only draw back from eating a burger like that is the feeling afterwards. You know that feeling like your heart stopped and you can feel the fats turning your blood into a fatty sludge. Now if only I can eat that satisfying burger without feeling like I just shortened my life span by 5 years. Well here is my solution, ground chicken burgers! No, it is not dry at all. I was watching the food network the other day and came across a chicken patty recipe from Guy Fieri. The idea was great so I decided to give it a try. I added some things and took out some others according to my own preference, but the results were still Delicious. This is what the finished products looks like

See all the color from the chunks of vegetable in the meat

Here I used a fat free cottage cheese to replace mayonnaise and regular cheese. It was creamy with out all the extra oils from mayonnaise.

Chicken Patty

1 lbs lean ground chicken

1/2 large sweet onion finely chopped

1/2 Sweet red pepper finely chopped

1/2 Jalapeno De-seeded and finely chopped

1/2 carton (4oz) button mushrooms

1/4 can (4 oz) ripe black olives chopped

2 cloves garlic finely minced

2 Tbs egg white (or use 1 whole egg)

1 Tbs bread crumbs

1/4 tsp sage

1/4 tsp oregano

1/4 tsp chili powder

1/4 tsp paprika

1/4 tsp salt

1/4 tsp pepper

Direction

1. Finely chop onion, mushroom, red pepper, jalapeno and olives. In a medium pan, saute this together with a pinch of salt until soft. Set aside to cool.

2. In a medium mixing bowl, combine ground chicken, cooled vegetables, egg white, bread crumbs, sage, oregano, chili powder, paprika, salt and pepper. Mix well and separate into 3-4 portion depending on how big you want to make your patty. I made 3 patties, but there is enough to make 4.

3. Wrap and shape the patty in some plastic wrap and let them sit in the refrigerator for at least 3o minuets.

4. Cook the patties in medium heat for about 3 to 4 minuets on each side.

5. Dress your burger to your liking and enjoy!

Grilled onion, tomato, lettuce, pickles, cottage cheese, Dijon mustard on a whole wheat bun. Serve it all with a side of small side salad and you have a complete meal. For those of you who want to eat a giant burger, but need to be cautious of their fat and cholesterol intake , this is a great way to indulge and keep with those diet rules.

    The burger looks awesome! I love a good chicken or turkey burger even more than a normal beef burger most of the time, anyway =)
